One of my favorite posts I've ever read was written by Jamie over at The Perpetual Page-Turner when she wrote about being married to a non-reader. I related to this post so much as I am also married to a non-reader. I thought that since my husband and I celebrated our anniversary this past weekend that it would be fun to do a little interview with him about books.
How many books would you guess that you read a year?
H: "Probably not enough. If I had to say, I'd say two or three."
Me: Whaaaat?! Really that's it?! You should read more books ;)
What was the last book you read all the way through?
H: "Zodiac by Romina Russell"
Me: Oh yeah, I remember you talking about it....did you enjoy it?
H: "Yeah, it had a really cool concept, I think that you'd like it"
Me: I'll add it to my never-ending tbr list :D
Do you have a favorite genre to read?
H: "Historical Non-Fiction."
Me: Hmmm. Not a genre that I've read much of! or anything of...
Are there any books on my bookshelves that you want to read?
H: "I might consider reading Game of Thrones but that's a long shot. I feel like you really need to like to read to attempt those books."
Me: Really! What about reading the audiobook?
Him: "Sure"
Me: *Runs off to overdrive to request Game of Thrones from the library*
What is your favorite book?
H: "The Phantom Tollbooth by Norman Juster."
Me: I thought you were going to say an HP book!
H: "Nah, that's my favorite series. The Phantom Tollbooth is my favorite book. Come on, you're the book reader."
Me: Haha, I thought you would still pick a book in the HP series as your favorite book..
If I pick a book out for you, would you attempt to read it?
H: "Define attempt... is that what you were doing this interview for..to get me to read a book"
Me: HAHAHAHA, nooooo not at all. ;) I mean attempt as in you would give it a shot and if you don't like it after 100 pages, you can stop reading it.
H: "ah, okay, I'll do it."
Me: Well that's all the questions I have. Thank you for letting me interview you for the blog.
H: "Anytime!"
I need your help! Help me pick out a book to get my husband to read (and hopefully not be able to stop reading). I've been wanting him to read some of my favorite fantasy series, because I think he'll really enjoy them. The three to choose from are:
A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwa
Finnikin of the Rock by Melina Marchetta
The Winner's Curse by Marie Rutkoski
This was a fun idea! Your husband is a good sport, haha.
ReplyDeleteOut of the three series, I think A Darker Shade of Magic might be the most accessible for someone who isn't a huge reader. I love Froi and Quintana, but I actually struggled with Finnikin, so maybe it's not the best place to start.
Also, my friend Sarah and her fiancé buddy read the Seven Realms series, and I think that's so cute. I think you've read the first book, but maybe that would be a series you and your husband could read together! :)
Thank you, I was not sure how it would go, but, you're right, he's a good sport. :)
DeleteI agree, A Darker Shade of Magic was the first book that came to mind when I was thinking of what to get him to try. It's just so good and so accessible as you mentioned.
OOOO, I love the idea of buddy reading the Seven Realms series. I think that's another one that he would really enjoy based off how enjoyable the first book was. He and I might have to read them this summer!! :D
Yay, I hope you have fun! :D
