Runes Blog Tour and Giveaway!

Title: Runes
Author: Ednah Walters
Publication: May 20th, 2013
Publisher: Firetrail Publishing

Rating: 4 out 5

Synopsis: Seventeen-year-old Raine Cooper has enough on her plate dealing with her father’s disappearance, her mother’s erratic behavior and the possibility of her boyfriend relocating. The last thing she needs is Torin St. James—a mysterious new neighbor with a wicked smile and uncanny way of reading her.

Raine is drawn to Torin’s dark sexiness against her better judgment, until he saves her life with weird marks and she realizes he is different. But by healing her, Torin changes something inside Raine. Now she can’t stop thinking about him. Half the time, she’s not sure whether to fall into his arms or run.

Scared, she sets out to find out what Torin is. But the closer she gets to the truth the more she uncovers something sinister about Torin. What Torin is goes back to an ancient mythology and Raine is somehow part of it. Not only is she and her friends in danger, she must choose a side, but the wrong choice will cost Raine her life.

Review: My first thoughts on this book is that it was a breath of fresh air. It had a great mixture of paranormal that you don't see all to often in books. I wish I could go into more detail but I don't want to give too much away. I found myself much more involved with the characters than I thought I would be. Though I did find myself frustrated with Raine, the MC, I still liked her overall. I thought that the development between Raine and Torin could have been more developed - I felt that it went from 0 to 60 once one of them realized their feelings. However, Walters did a fantastic job of making me think about Torin as a potential new book boyfriend.

I loved the unique story of the Runes and the magic that goes with them. I wanted to find out more about the Runes and about how they are used and what those that use them are called. While the bulk of the information isn't told until the end, there is enough throughout the book that kept me interested and wanting to find out more.

I felt that there were small bits of the story missing towards the end. I felt like things started to happen and there was no explanation of how it happened. This is hard to explain without giving anything away, but this is an essential part of the book that I felt deserved to be told thoroughly. When I finished the book I felt like I wanted to read the next one right away. This book hooked me in and I cannot wait for the next one to come out. Overall this was a great read and I would recommend this one.

  1. Happy you enjoyed Runes, kind of. Immortals is 3 months away and you'll get to love/hate some of the characters all over again and learn more about Torin's world through Raine's eyes.
